Scrapbook style recipe book projects

These make great gifts for parents or family members. I did one of Cookie Recipes my mom does for us every Christmas and gave them to my daughters and sister-in-laws one year.

You need a small scrapbook with top loading pages.  I like to buy them at Hobby Lobby when they are on sale.  My preference is for 6X6 books, but you can make any size work for the project.  Purchase 12X12 cardstock and cut it into appropriate size, I get 4 pages for a 6X6 book from a 12X12 sheet of cardstock.  I type my recipe into Microsoft Word and make it the size I need, I like at least a one inch border so I usually do a 4X4 box for my recipe.  I take a photo of my prepared recipe and add to the recipe. I can layer the recipe onto the cardstock base. Depending on the grade level, I believe most children could type the recipe and the teacher could help size it properly.

Desk Cards

Microsoft Word

·        File- Page Set up- Margins- Change them all to .5

·        If your names are long you may want to change to Landscape settings

·        Portrait you now have 7 ˝ inches X 10 inches

·        Landscape you have 10”X71/2”

·        Tent Style:  You need half the page for one- put name on the lower half of the card so when you fold them you can read

·        Sentence Strip Style:  You can get 3 from one sheet and laminate and seal on desk

·        Pick your Font and size 60 to 72 are good  (in Format- Font you can change the size to any you want).

·        Type the names first

·        Put your cursor where you want the graphic to go and add graphic- click on graphic until the box around it comes up- change size- right click the picture and get your picture toolbar  so you can click TIGHT- now you can move your picture around and it will be centered with the print

Book Cover

Microsoft Word

Landscape Setting

Columns- 2 (double set of lines on toolbar)

Put your title and/or subject  on the second column (enter until you get where you want)

Adding graphic-

Right click graphic so you adjust the size, on Picture Toolbar click TIGHT under Text Wrap and I like to Greyscale it on put it behind the text.

Labels

From Avery.com download the free program, the icon will go on your Microsoft toolbar.  From there the wizard will take you through making any Avery label.  I print them on labels or on cardstock and cut them up.  I use them to hand out an At~A~Boy to students or coupons for favorite activities. I let my kids tell me what they want as rewards.

You can make bookmarks for you students for any occasion.  Put  in a graphic and quick text and you have a bookmark.  Just  make a table.

Post-It Note Holder

Cut your cardstock in a strip 7 ˝

X 3 ˝ inches.  Score it at ˝ and 4 inches and crease at the score marks.  Glue the post-it inside and close.  Decorate the outside.

Candy Bar Cover

Candy Bar: Leave the wrapper on, I usually roll it on the cardstock and add about an inch extra, but you could also measure and add and inch to the width around the candy bar and trim the length. Make your sentiment and image then print, trim and mount.

Popcorn Cover

Popcorn: Wrap will be the same as the candy bar.  I like to punch holes in the front and back of the side and put a ribbon in and hang the popcorn pouch, tie the ribbon off and you can pull the popcorn out using the ribbon sling.  Print a sentiment and image then layer and mount on the front of the wrap.

Water Bottle Label

Water Bottle: Carefully peel the label off and use it as your pattern.  I like to wrap in colored cardstock, then print off what I want to say and a picture on a neutral color cardstock.  Trim and mount on patterned paper and adhere to the cardstock in front.
